Community

From the Group's inception, a philosophy of "giving back to the community" was inculcated by Nathan and Lily Silver, the founders of Metrontario. This philosophy has been implemented in a number of ways. A charitable foundation was established a number of years ago which is funded by the member companies and contributes on an annual basis to a wide range of charitable causes.

Metrontario was one of the leaders in the construction and establishment of Wellspring Halton-Peel House in Oakville, Ontario. Wellspring is a network of centres that provides psychological, social, emotional, and informal support to cancer patients and their loved ones, with programs provided free of charge and without the need for a referral, in a home-like, non-institutional setting.

In addition, executives of Metrontario sit on boards of numerous community volunteer organizations that cover a broad spectrum within the communities in which they live. Over the years, executives of the Group have assumed leading roles in such organizations, including the Presidency of the Urban Development Institute of Canada, Presidency of the Ontario Juvenile Arthritis Association and other Executive and Board positions with leading charitable groups.
